Born in Ottawa, Canada in 1968, I knew early on that I wanted to become an artist. At a time when most Canadian families were investing in a cottage by a lake, my parents decided to take their family on a trip of a lifetime throughout Europe.  I was nine at the time.  Although I may not have understood the scope of history of what we were seeing, the experience left an indelible mark on my life.  During this trip, without a doubt, it is the time we spent in Poland, my father’s homeland, that influenced me the most in my choice to become the artist I am today.

Since that initial trip, I returned to Europe to live in Sienna, Italy for four months as part of my associate degree from the Ontario College of Art and Design.  More recently, I went back overseas to have the most rewarding experience of walking part of the pilgrimage of St.James in the north of Spain.  The sites and scenes I took in along the way will be used as inspiration for my next series of work.

That trip to Spain was already a year ago.  These days, I’m painting a special series based on some very special flowers found at a bog site in the East end of Ottawa.  These little flowers are like nothing I’ve ever seen before.  They are miniature, kind of spindally with incredibly rich colours from pale green to deep maroon.  I think they have been around for a million years!  They totally look prehistoric!  Anyways, I hope you enjoy the paintings that come from this odd and beautiful place.

 

 

Née à Ottawa, Canada en 1968, j’ai su très tôt que je voulais devenir une artiste. Alors que la majorité des gens mettait leur argent dans un chalet au bord d’un lac, mes parents onts décidé d’amener leur famille en voyage en Europe. J’avais alors neuf ans. Quoique que je n’ai pas compris tout le contexte historique des sites que nous avons visités, cette expérience m’a marquée pour la vie. Sans doute que, de tout dans tout le voyage, notre visite en Pologne le pays d’origine de mon père m’a le plus influencée à devenir l’artiste que je suis.

Depuis ce voyage initial, je suis retournée en Europe pour vivre à Sienne pendant quatre mois. Ce fut une composante de mon grade d’associée du collège d’art de l’Ontario. Je suis retournée en 2009 pour faire une partie de pélerinage à pied vers Santiago de Compostela dans le nord de l’Espagne. Les sites et les scènes observés serviront d’inspiration pour ma prochaine série de tableaux. En ce moment je peins une série inspirée de fleurs très spéciales que j’ai trouvées à la Mer Bleue près d’Ottawa. Elle ne ressemble à rien que j’ai déjà vue. Elles sont miniatures, fine et leurs couleurs varient du vert pâle au marron. Étant donné le contexte historique de cet endroit elles peuvent ressembler à des fleures de la préhistoire. J’espère que ses toiles inspirées de ce lieu enchanteur sauront vous plaire.
